WATERFRONT AUCKLAND
Waterfront Auckland's is a council controlled organisation responsible for the planning, design and development of the central Auckland waterfront. As part of this we are expected to deliver high quality urban design/spaces for public use/activation.
Already we have delivered capital works that provide great amenity to the marine community with the opening in August 2011 of the Viaduct Events Centre (venue for the Boat Show in September), North wharf restaurants, Silo Park and the Wynyard Crossing pedestrian bridge as part of Stage 1 of Wynyard Quarter revitalisation. Other projects have been the refurbishment and future proofing of Queen's Wharf and the construction of the Cloud in time for Rugby World Cup 2011. Future projects include a cruise ship terminal on the wharf, the revitalisation of Quay Street and urban landscaping plans to transform two key streets in the Wynyard Quarter into linear parks.
Waterfront Auckland also acts as a major waterfront property owner and manager on behalf of the Auckland Council. As part of this we have a Marina division that looks after the management of Westhaven, Silo Park, Viaduct and the Landing (Okahu Bay) marinas. This role ensures we have a very close relationship with the marine industry, enhanced by the fact Wynyard Quarter, a key property asset for Waterfront Auckland, is also a major hub for marine services nationally. Our ties with the industry will only get stronger in the future, through the delivery of such projects as a major superyacht refit and servicing facility in the area.
We recognise growing New Zealand's world reknown marine industry is essential to realising the full potential the Auckland Waterfront holds and this is why we are proud to sponsor the 2012 Millennium Cup regatta.
