Elvström Superyacht Sailmakers, organisers of The Superyacht Cup in Palma, Mallorca are pleased to announce the 2006-2007 schedule of the Superyacht Cup events including a new event for 2006, and a change of event date for 2007.

Celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, The Superyacht Cup Palma will take place from 11–14th October 2006 hosted for the second year running at the Marina Port de Mallorca.

This successful event was started in 1996 by Elvström Superyacht partners Patrick Whetter and Spike Thompson, also based on the Island of Mallorca. Originally conceived as an informal gathering for their clients, The Superyacht Cup Palma has become an ‘end-of-season’ favourite attracting 15-20 boats annually over the 3 day sailing event.

Brand new for 2006, the Superyacht Cup team are also pleased to announce the first edition of The Superyacht Cup Antigua to be hosted at Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua from 13th-16th December 2006. The Superyacht Cup Antigua will take place directly after the Charter Yacht Meeting and will be run using the same format as the event in Palma with a welcome reception on 13th December followed by 3 sailing days and a Prize-giving dinner on Saturday 16th December.

For 2007, to coincide with the America’s Cup taking place in Valencia from April-June 2007, the dates of The Superyacht Cup Palma will change to 16th-19th June 2007 to form the central event of what is being labelled as a ‘Palma Superyacht Week’. The week has been scheduled between the end of the Louis Vuitton Challenger Series for the America’s Cup (12th June) and the start of the America’s Cup final (23rd June).

In addition to The Superyacht Cup Palma 2007, separate regattas are being organised during the week by two of the world’s most prestigious ship builders and naval architects, Royal Huisman Shipyard (Holland) and Dubois Naval Architects (UK) for owners of yachts built by the two companies.

In total, over 70 Superyachts are expected to participate during the ‘Palma Superyacht Week’ and at the finale event - The Superyacht Cup Palma 2007 making it one of the largest fleets of Superyachts ever to sail together in a single event.

As a further addition to the 2007 spectacle, the ‘New Zealand Millennium Cup 2007’ will also be staged on the final day of The Superyacht Cup Palma 2007 on 19th June. Celebrating its third edition in 2007, the New Zealand Millennium Cup was first staged during the America’s Cup 2000, and then again during the America’s Cup 2003. Organised by the New Zealand Marine Industry, the New Zealand Millennium Cup is an opportunity for international superyachts of 30 metres or more to participate in a sailing event that showcases the best of the New Zealand Marine technologies.
