Lloyd's Register Signs Sponsorship of the New Zealand Millennium Cup

The Worldwide Lloyd’s Register Group, having origins in the grand tradition of merchant shipping, is very pleased to announce its Gold Sponsorship of the New Zealand Millennium Cup.

The organisation has aligned itself with The New Zealand Millennium Cup because of its close association with yacht builders and owners. Many of the superyachts taking part in the cup celebrations and racing will have been built to Lloyd’s Register’s Rules for Special Service Craft.

“In fact, the company owes its origins to marine tradition – in the 17th century, Edward Lloyd, proprietor of a coffee house, helped his shipping industry clientele to exchange information by publishing all of the news he heard. In 1760, the Register Society was formed by his customers and its Register of Ships became the main tool used by underwriters and merchants to get an idea of the condition of the vessels they insured and chartered.
